I don’t care
how you get here, you simply MUST make the gorgeous drive from Fort Nelson, BC
to Muncho Lake, BC. The speed limit is
lower today at 80 k/m or 50 mph as the road definitely has character and
personality. The curves, down grades (sometimes
as much as 8% grade)….and of course what goes down must come up…the mountains
in the distance, forests, lakes and loads and loads of wildlife. Can you tell we enjoyed the trip today?
Yes, there
were a few bumps along the way but nothing to get excited over.
We even
managed to enjoy our coffee break at Testa River Lodge complimented with huge
cinnamon buns.
We are getting ready to set up a cinnamon bun rating scale. These buns had a nice strong cinnamon lacing but a drier bun…maybe due to being microwaved to warm them.

We have
discovered that the bears are much more photogenic than the moose. The black bears along the side of the road just
ignore you as you stop your vehicle and grab a few shots.
Now the
moose on the other hand don’t get as close to the road. And they bolt back into the woods as you as
you stop and roll down the window to focus on their massive frame.
As we
approached the highest point on the
Alaskan Highway at Summit Lake, we saw a huge sign warning us of stone sheep on
the road. So we got into position with
the camera and……around the corner, up the grade, the camera hand is getting
tired. Dad said he had better see a
sheep soon…..and there they were…not IN the road but as close to the road as they
could get without getting hit. Now we
decided the stone sheep, while not exactly shy of the camera….meaning they didn’t
bolt, did tend to turn their backs to the lens giving us lots of opportunity
for butt shots.
There was still ice at that highest area of the Alaskan Highway.
Muncho Lake has a large sized lodge with the RV park located near the water. A plane was just taking off as we were getting set up.
Hickory
....on the road again
