Denali National Park

It was an early wake up call that got things rolling with the thoughts of being on time for our shuttle bus into Denali National Park.  The plans were to take the 4 hour shuttle ride (66 miles) into the park as far as Eielson where there is an opportunity to view Denali Mountain (formally Mt McKinnley).  Passenger cars are only allowed to drive 15 miles into the park.

Everything was right on schedule until......the flag gal turned her sign to STOP.  We are staying only 10 miles from the park but it took us over 35 minutes as we sat waiting for our turn to follow the pilot car through the paving project.  Running late, we turned into the park and of course, blew the turn into our parking lot...adding more delay to our arrival.  Dashing to the loading area, we could see our green bluebird bus pulling out.  A spry, young worker ran along the bus, catching the driver's eye and stopping the bus so we could hop on board.  Now that was way too close!!

If luck is with you, there is a great opportunity for many animal sightings.  The first hour we saw the backside of one moose in the brush.  The second hour there were at least 7 people on the bus sleeping that we counted.  Then the bus stopped so we could gaze WAY up on the hillside in the FAR distance for some sheep grazing.
Butt shots of course.....Luckily we didn't forget the binoculars.

About 15 minutes from Eielson, we saw a herd of caribou.

And then we arrived, leaving the clear skies for drizzle and clouds on the mountain.  The two etching marks on the window indicate the top of the mountain that is viewable on a clear day.

There was a bit more animal activity on the 4 hour ride back to our vehicle.

Lots of super views.  Such an enchanting area!

What stunned us was watching a young couple who had been on the bus with us let their dog out of their car upon returning to the parking lot.  That was an 8 hour + day that the dog spent in a packed car.  What were the owners thinking?

I got to stay in my rig and Aunt Janice took me out and fed me.
