Glitch

Well, this has been an interesting travel...almost not....day.  I say almost not traveling because when Dad went to back into the rig to hitch up, the truck said, "No way!  I'm not starting today."  Hey, I'm all loaded up and ready to hit the road.  Come on truck...give me a break. I'm ready for new sites and smells.

To the rescue:  one of the owners of a toyhauler and ATV had a little box that he hooked on the battery and voila.  The truck was humming.

Dad backed into the rig.  We picked up the power cord.  Momma and Dad strapped on their seat belts and then Dad started fussing....Now what.  No instrument panel.  Up went the hood again checking fuses.  Now that is an experience all in itself.  Do you know how many fuses are in that box?  And what goes with what?  Well, Momma dug out the book and sifted thru the multiple pages listing the all the fuses.  Would you believe there is more than one fuse for the instrument display?  And they all looked good.  Finally, Dad said, "Let's just slam the lid and hit the road.".  I can tell our speed by the GPS.  Well, yes, that worked out okay....but then...the climate control was on auto and blowing hot air...which we didn't need.  Looks like the AC is not working.  Hey, it's a cool day being just 72 degrees.  Fresh air is just the ticket.

As we hit the highway, Dad made another discovery....no cruise control....so it was foot to the pedal.  At least the trailer brakes and lights all worked so we were safe to travel.

Well, the wheels were turning, the fresh air temp was dropping to about 68 and Dad's foot was beginning to cramp.  It was coffee break time for sure.  Oh boy, that means cookie bones for me!!  And it was a nice long break with lots of bones to munch on while Dad had his coffee and a snack.

Dad didn't even treat the truck to a drink or anything but it sure took advantage of the break time.  Dad started up the engine and amazingly enough, it started without a jump....and....the instrument panel was functioning....along with the AC and the cruise.  It was like magic!  The computer must have rebooted.  We had tried restarting at the campground before we departed but I guess it just needed a longer shut down period to reset everything.

Well, that was a load off Dad's mind.  He had been planning his strategies.....disconnect the battery overnight....locate a Dodge dealer.....you get the idea.  Now he could sit back, rest his weary foot and enjoy the interesting views of the day.
